After the fire and during the renovations at the Manotick Arena, YOMA moved to Manotick United Church for a year.  We are so grateful to the church for giving us a home during that time.
On March 2 we returned to the newly renovated and expanded Arena.  Our first Drop-In was Red Carpet Night.  Sure it was our fun tribute to the Oscar’s but it was also a celebration of our first night back.

On July 7, during National Take a Kid to the Course Week, YOMA and Richmond Youth Centre held our first Scott Moffatt Golf4Youth Classic presented this year by Caivan Communities.  It was a hot, humid day at Canadian Golf and Country Club but the golfers, both youth and adult, had a great time.  We are thankful for the support of our Councillor, the sponsors, donors, organizers and volunteers,

The YOMA youth salesperson extraordinaire, Reese, made sure that the Bake Sale table was a near sellout.  Thank you to the staff at RBC and to all of the YOMA families who baked and donated items for the sale.  There may have been a fire at the Arena, but MVCA, the Shiverfest committee and the Kiwanis made sure that most of the weekend’s activities took place anyway.  Thanks too, to everyone who helped make it a success by making space available or helping communicate the changes.  The YOMA Bake Sale, originally scheduled for Friday night, moved to the Chilli Cook Off and Reese, one of our enthusiastic pre-teens, helped make it a success.  Thank you Reese and thank you to everyone who supported YOMA there.

Taste of Manotick 2016We had a great summer at YOMA with lots of fun activities in the community.  We had our annual barbecue lunch for some our friends at ROSSS.  The heat that day sent us all indoors and the Legion was able to help us out with a location.  We had a Tech Help afternoon with the ROSSS Manotick Drop-In which was fun for all generations.  Naturally we were a part of Taste of Manotick.  Thanks again to MVCA for welcoming the YOMA youth to Picnic in the Park and for naming YOMA the charitable recipient.  Our YOMA youth always step up and contribute and have fun. img_3856 img_3892

Thank you Kiwanis Club of Manotick for organizing another exciting, action-filled weekend.  Here are some YOMA youth having a great time in the parade.  Thank you Dani of Mothership Photography for the photo!

Last month the YOMA Facilitators visited local schools to remind the youth of the programs we offer.  Thank you to St. Leonard Elementary, St. Mark High School and Kars on the Rideau Public School for making us feel welcome.  IMG_3425

On Friday, September 25 YOMA was able to offer a free CPR – AED training course to 20 YOMA youth.  This was made possible thanks to funding secured by Nepean Rideau Osgoode Community Resource Centre for this purpose.  The course filled up quickly and we even had a waiting list.  Good thing since a few participants had to cancel last minute.  We were impressed with the reception to this program and will be looking for more opportunities to offer sessions like this in the future.  Thank you Danielle Donders for the photo!

On Friday, June 30, MP Pierre Poilievre announced that half of the funds needed for the Arena expansion will come to Manotick through the “Canada 150th Infrastructure Grant”.  The Arena expansion will include larger change rooms and more community space.  Some of that space will be designated for a permanent home for YOMA.  Thank you Councillor Moffatt for submitting the application for the grant and thank you Minister Poilievre for endorsing it.

The Manotick Kiwanis Club recently made a generous donation of $1000 to YOMA.  Kiwanis Club president Jeff Kashin presented the cheque to YOMA Board President, Janice Domaratzki.  The local Kiwanis Club initiated a 50/50 draw and named YOMA as the recipient.  The draw was made at Dickinson Days.  The money so generously donated to YOMA will be used for the youth programming.

Congratulations to our Movie Night raffle winner, Ella Marks.  She won a Cineplex gift card and a basket full of snack food.after entering in our raffle at the Dickinson Days booth.  It was a fun day.  Thank you to everyone who stopped by to enter the draw, buy popcorn and cotton candy or just to say hello.
